Direct Entry

If you are a graduate of a Greek public or private school and hold a “Greek Apolytirion of Lykeio” with an overall mark of 16.5/20 and above you can apply directly to most UK Universities without needing to follow an Access/Foundation programme or a GCE A-level programme.
At UK4U British Tutorial Centre we will help you make the right choice. Our academic coordinator, who is a certified agent of British Education in Greece, as well as our experienced staff will guide and support you in your quest for the best possible options for you. We offer:
  • Responsible guidance for your choice of study and University before your application through one-to-one interviews.
  • UCAS application submission including personal statement and samples of reference letters.
  • Application submission for Accommodation either in University residence halls or in Private Halls ( we are agents for both “OPAL” and “UNITE” )
  • Application submission for Student Loan.
  • Continuous support, not only through the application process but also once you are in University.
  • And most importantly honest advice and no promises that we cannot fulfill.
That is why you need to know some very important factors and truths:
  1. To enter a UK University directly immediately after your graduation (in September of the same year as you have graduated) your application will go through the process of “Clearing”. “Clearing” takes place between mid-August and end of September and involves only Universities which have not filled all of their places in specific areas and as a result they still have places available. This means that both the areas of study as well as the number of Universities are limited.
  2. It is best to apply while you are still in your last year of school. Your application will be considered on the basis of marks from the “Apolytirion of Gymnasio” or from your marks of “Deftera Lykeiou” as well as your predicted marks for your last year, which will be asked in your UCAS application. So be prepared to ask your Head of school for both predicted marks and possibly a reference letter.
  3. The deadline for applications is January 15th of the current academic year although Universities are allowed to accept applications even later than that, until the end of June.
  4. You can only apply to 5 Universities, so careful consideration and planning is required in order to avoid rejections.
  5. All UK Universities will not consider an “Apolytirion of Lykeion” without Pan-Hellenic examination marks and most of the top ones will even ask you for specific marks on the required subjects for your study.
  6. Elite UK Universities do not consider the “Apolytirion” as sufficient evidence for entry and they usually require additional GCE A-levels in order to consider your application. Such Universities are: Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Imperial, Warwick, St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Bath and Bristol. For example the Mechanical Engineering department at Imperial requires a minimum of 18.5 plus A-levels in Mathematics and Physics.
  7. All UK Universities will ask you for proof of English Language, usually IELTS with minimum mark 6.0.
  8. YOU CAN NOT ENTER A UK MEDICAL SCHOOL WITH “APOLYTIRION”.
At UK4U British Tutorial Centre we can also help you with applications for postgraduate studies. You need to know that:
  • Applications go directly to the University of your choice or through the postgraduate service of UCAS (UKPASS) for a specific number of Universities.
  • There is no specific deadline for most Universities, although it is always best to apply as early as possible.
  • There is no limit to the number of Universities you can apply to, however most students usually apply to a maximum of 3 Universities.
  • Depending on the department and the University, there might be an application fee.
  • The application process is similar to that for undergraduate studies and hence predicted mark of “Ptychion” , reference letters and a personal statement are also required, along with an IELTS mark of 7.0 – 7.5.
